The role of education in maintaining the culture

From the standpoint of individual education is an effort to develop individual potential, here we can assume that education can make the hidden abilities of individuals will be seen and can be honed so that later can be useful for their lives.

From the point of view of social education is as inheritance of cultural values, here it can be interpreted that the older generation wants the cultural values to be preserved sustainably, that their identity will be able to remain sustainable even though the times will continue to change and even so they hope later identity it will continue to be maintained.

As an example can be taken of local culture about visiting someone’s house, according to local culture when we visit someone’s home and homeowners provide drinks then we must spend before we leave the house, because if we go home without spending the drinks provided then later if we visit again they will not provide drinking water because they think the drinking water must not be spent.

In this view, education carries two main tasks, namely an increase in individual potential and the preservation of cultural values. Humans as cultured beings are essentially the creators of the culture itself. The culture then improves in line with the increase in the human potential of the creator of the culture.

In conclusion, education is an effort that is carried out consciously and as much as possible to change human behaviour both individually and in groups to mature humans through teaching and training efforts. That’s how education preserves our culture.
